$4.01 - A Cigarette Maker's Romance
1890 HC (3217-176 BO) antique books
(Book Resque)

This author was a gifted narrator, and his books of fiction, full of historic vitality and dramatic characterization, became widely popular among readers to whom the realism of problems or the eccentricities of subjective analysis were repellent. He could unfold a romantic story in an attractive way, setting his plot amid picturesque surroundings, and gratify the reader's intelligence by a style at once straightforward and accomplished. The Saracinesca series shows him perhaps at his best. A Cigarette-maker's Romance was dramatized, and had considerable popularity on the stage as well as in its novel form; and in 1902 an original play from his pen, Francesca da Rimini, was produced in Paris by Sarah Bernhardt.  He died at Sorrento on the 9th of April 1909.

Copyright 1890 this hardcover measures 7 1/2 x 5 x 1 (approx.) and contains 265 pages.  On a scale of 1 - 10 with 10 being 'like new' I rate this copy a 4+.  The cover shows wear.  The inside page, front and back, show discoloration and look as if they may have been repaired.  The Title page has a name and date inscribed on it.  These can all be seen in the pictures.  But for a book this old, it's in really good condition.  Actually the cover looks better than it does in the picture.

(PLEASE READ: I’m elderly and can’t smell very well so I can’t tell if the previous owner was a smoker.  All books come from estate, tag or yard sales so I don't know if the previous owner was a smoker nor if they had an animal.  Selling as is.  Buy more than one item and save on postage.)
